SUPPLEMENTAL PRIVACY POLICY TERMS: RIGHTSBACK.ORG
These Supplemental Privacy Policy Terms incorporate and supplement the Creative Commons Master Privacy Policy with respect to the information collected through use of the website jointly operated by Creative Commons Corporation (“CC” or “Creative Commons”) and Authors Alliance at https://rightsback.org (the “Website”) and the Termination of Transfer tool (the “ToT Service”) provided on the Website. The purpose these Supplemental Privacy Policy Terms is to provide specific disclosures that relate to the use of the Website and the ToT Service by Creative Commons and Authors Alliance. In the event of a conflict between this Supplemental policy and the Creative Commons Master Privacy Policy located at https://creativecommons.org/privacy (the “Master Privacy Policy”), the terms of these Supplemental Privacy Policy Terms take precedence for purposes of your use of the Website and the ToT Service. With respect to the Website and the ToT Service only, the terms of the Master Privacy Policy also apply to Authors Alliance as an operator of the Website and the ToT Service.
Through the ToT Service and the Website, Creative Commons and Authors Alliance collect personal information and non-personal information that you provide.
ToT Service
Each time you submit information about a hypothetical work through the ToT Service, Creative Commons and Authors Alliance collect that information and use it to inform you about whether a work with the characteristics you provide may be eligible for termination (collectively, “the information”). The information is not necessarily personal information under applicable law.
Creative Commons and Authors Alliance use the information to estimate notice and termination window dates under U.S. Copyright law and to provide that information (which is not legal advice) in a Termination of Transfer Information Sheet rendered in PDF form at the conclusion of the ToT Service. The Termination of Transfer Information Sheet contains educational information about potential termination rights that may or may not exist for a work with the characteristics you provide. The information is only processed locally within your web browser. In creating a PDF that provides information on whether a work with the characteristics you provide may be eligible for termination, the information you enter will be sent to our servers for the sole purpose of generating the PDF. This information is held temporarily in the server logs. It is not otherwise retained, processed, or analyzed. We do not share the information with other parties. However, we may disclose or publish aggregated or statistical data that does not identify you.
The Website
If you send us email or other communication, we may use your personal information to respond to you.
We may retain contractors to help us to improve the Website and the ToT Service, and they may be given access to personal information as needed to perform their services. However, we require them to agree to protect your information as we would under these Supplemental Privacy Policy Terms and the Master Privacy Policy.
We may be ordered by a court or other governmental authority to provide information as required by law. In such cases, we may disclose information as needed to comply with such orders.
Other websites may link to or frame the ToT Service so that it appears in the context of their website. If you use the ToT Service as embedded in those websites, you may be subject to their data collection and privacy policies. It is your responsibility to ensure that you understand their policies and practices before you provide any information. We do not have any responsibility for or control over such other websites.
Non-Personal Browsing Information We Collect
When you use the Website or the ToT Service, our servers (which may be hosted by a third-party service provider) may collect information indirectly and automatically (through, for example, the use of your “IP address”) about your activities while visiting the Website and using the ToT Service such as information about the browser you are using, including for example through use of Google Analytics. For more information, see “How Google uses data” located at www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners. By visiting the Website and the using the ToT Service, you consent to the storing and accessing of cookies or other information on your device.
